Bucketlist Japan
It’s time for the Land of the Rising Sun - a country where every turn is a contrast. One day, you’re lost in Tokyo’s neon jungle, the next, you’re tracing calligraphy strokes in Kyoto, feeding bowing deer in Nara, or soaking in the buzz of Osaka’s backstreets. Bullet trains blur past landscapes, street food tells stories, and nights stretch long with fuelled conversations. This is Japan - electric, timeless, and unapologetically alive.
Oh, this country! Can someone tell us what’s going on here? From neon-lit streets to robot cafes to restaurants operated by real-life private detectives, to bullet trains, manga culture and street food. Japan will first blow your mind and then blow your mind again. Designing this experience in Japan was the most fun we’ve had in recent times — and talking to local experts from Japan added to the magic. From futuristic Tokyo to modern Osaka to ancient Kyoto, we designed this adventure as a story of a lifetime, and I cannot wait for you to experience it.
See you in Japan, soon.

The Gameplan
DAY 01
Welcome to Tokyo & Izakaya crawl

- Welcome to the electric heart of Japan - Tokyo, where tradition meets the future.
- Dive into the vibrant vibe of the city with an evening that promises the buzz of friendship and the thrill of discovery.
- From sizzling Takoyaki to delicate sushi, your taste buds are in for a treat. Amidst the neon-lit streets, forge connections that turn travel companions into lifelong friends.
- Your best life is about to begin.
DAY 02
World's Largest Immersive Art Experience & Tokyo’s Glamour

- The morning takes you to the most awaited photo op of the trip - TeamLab Planets. Walk through dreamlike installations & feel the art.
- From there, we step into history at Sensō-ji, Tokyo’s oldest temple. Light incense, make a wish, and get your fortune told the traditional way.
- Then, it’s on to Asakusa for a taste of old Tokyo - street food, tiny shops, and a slice of nostalgia.
- Later, we head to Ginza - Tokyo’s hub of luxury and legendary dining. But the night truly comes alive underground, where we drink like locals in the hidden bars of a subway station.
DAY 03
A Postcard Day out to Mt. Fuji

- We kick off from Tokyo (easy meet-up points like Tokyo Station / Shinjuku) and head out towards Fuji-country—watch the city fade into wide skies and mountain roads.
- First big hit: Lake Kawaguchiko—Fuji reflections, lakeside air, and that calm-before-the-wow.
- Then we take a Quick, iconic stop: the Lawson photo spot—Japan’s most accidentally-famous convenience store view, where Mt. Fuji shows up like the main character. Grab a snack, click your best shots, move on.
- Slow it down at Oshino Hakkai—a charming village with crystal-clear spring ponds fed by Mt. Fuji’s snowmelt. Then we head back to Tokyo by evening, full camera roll, fuller hearts.
- As evening hits, we’ll meet at the Hachiko statue, cross the legendary Shibuya Crossing, and wrap with a final Kampai dinner. If you still have energy, Shibuya jazz bars are the perfect late-night cherry on top.
DAY 04
From Speed to Stillness: Ink Your Kyoto Story

- Experience the world’s fastest bullet train and race through Japan at 320 km/h!
- Ease into Kyoto’s rhythm and explore at your own pace. Unwind at a cosy café or wander Nishiki Market, Kyoto’s culinary hub.
- Learn the ancient art of Japanese calligraphy from true masters, turning ink and brush into a meditative experience.
- Party at Kyoto’s best club and grab late-night Sojus as you walk through Pontocho’s historic alleys.
DAY 05
Find your Zen in Kyoto’s Timeless Sunset

- Kyoto slows the clock, but today, time truly stands still. As the sun sets, we’ll watch from a 1,200-year-old temple terrace(Kiyomizu-dera 🧧) - a vantage point that has seen history unfold for centuries.
- This isn’t just a sunset; it’s a portal to the past, a golden moment shared with generations before us. If Japan was calling you to find Zen, this is where you’ll feel it.
DAY 06
Osaka: Japan’s street food capital

- From Kyoto’s quiet charm to Osaka’s electric energy, the shift is instant.
- Welcome to Japan’s street food capital, where the real magic happens off the beaten path.
- Let your taste buds lead the way through Osaka’s legendary street food scene - sizzling takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and flavours you didn’t even know you needed. Paired with a round (or three) of sake, this is the kind of night that stays with you long after it ends.
DAY 07
Meet the Deers of Nara and One Last stroll, One last sip!

- Nara feels like stepping into a softer, slower world - where ancient temples meet open parks, and the locals include the city’s playful guardians.
- Meet Nara’s famous bowing deer - feed them, bow back, and try not to get out-charmed.
- No visit is complete without indulging in one of Japan’s most beloved treats: freshly hand-pounded mochi. Soft, chewy, and best enjoyed with a cup of coffee - the perfect way to soak in the magic of this storybook day.
- We're back to Osaka by evening. A final kampai to a week of wild adventures, late-night stories, and friendships forged in the heart of Japan. It's those countless conversations, endless laughter, and the kind of moments that stay with you long after the trip ends.
DAY 08
Saying Sayonara: Until Next Time, Japan

- Wheels up, but the adventure isn’t over - Japan has a way of calling you back.
- The journey comes full circle as we pack up the memories, the moments, and maybe even a few extra souvenirs.

A note from the team
There are many ways to explore Japan. This is one of our favourites.
Ask your favourite AI for a trip and you will get a sensible TripAdvisor checklist: famous stop, quick photo, next stop. We plan the hard-to-reach magic instead, then leave room for detours and the moments no schedule can manufacture.
Notes for you
Across the 12 months ending 29 July 2026, our travelled groups were close to balanced, with about 55% women and 44% men. The median traveller was 34 and the median group had 9 people. That is a historical snapshot, not a promise about the mix on a specific edition.
We design each edition around the destination rather than using a standard tour template. The usual rhythm is one or two experiences a day, with room to take the place in instead of rushing through a checklist.
Yes. Anyone aged 18 or older can apply. Our groups often skew from the late 20s to early 40s, but fit, energy and the experience itself matter more than fitting a narrow age band.
Yes. You can apply solo or with someone you know.
Yes, single rooms are available as an add-on; the exact price depends on the date you pick, so check the payment page for your edition. If you don't want a single, we match you with a roommate from the group.
Full refund if you cancel more than 90 days before departure, 50% refund 45-90 days out, 25% refund 30-44 days out, and no refund inside 30 days. This applies to the amount you've actually paid.
20% holds your invite. The rest is due in instalments before departure: full refund if you cancel more than 90 days out, 50% refund 45-90 days out, 25% refund 30-44 days out, and no refund inside 30 days. The exact instalment dates for your edition are on the payment page.
This Tokyo-to-Osaka route currently starts at Narita International Airport (NRT) and ends at Kansai International Airport (KIX). Check your exact edition and booking confirmation before buying flights, and aim to arrive in time for the Day 1 welcome meetup.
Your exact edition page lists the stay, core activities and internal travel included in the fee. International flights, visa fees, airport transfers, personal meals and drinks, shopping, paid add-ons and solo excursions are separate unless that edition explicitly marks them included. Check the itinerary and included/excluded lists for your departure before booking.
We recommend grabbing a local SIM or pocket WiFi at the arrival airport — costs around JPY 3,000-5,000 for an 8-day unlimited data plan. Most hotels and cafes also have free WiFi. Since the group moves through Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, having your own data really helps for maps and translation apps.
Mostly by train and metro — Japan's public transport is famously punctual and easy once you get the hang of it. Group activities include transport logistics, but for self-explore time, an IC card (Suica/Pasmo) works across all three cities for trains, buses, and even vending machines. Loading JPY 3,000-5,000 at a time is usually enough for a few days.
Every group has a dedicated trip captain reachable 24/7 during the trip, and ExCo has a local emergency support line active throughout. Japan's own emergency numbers are 110 (police) and 119 (ambulance/fire) — English support is available on these lines. Keep your hotel's address card (given at check-in) on you at all times for translation help.
Weather depends on your departure dates and can differ between Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. February is winter: bring warm layers and sensible walking shoes. October is generally milder, but other departure months have their own conditions. Check the forecast for your exact dates closer to travel.
This trip involves solid daily walking — think 12,000-18,000 steps some days between Shibuya, Sensoji, and the Nara day trip, plus stairs at Kiyomizu-Dera and a full day out at Mount Fuji. No technical trekking, but decent stamina and comfy shoes are a must. If you can walk briskly for 45-60 mins without trouble, you're good.
The Shinjuku Izakaya Crawl involves a bar-hopping experience where drinks are available, but nothing's forced — you can order mocktails, soft drinks, or just enjoy the vibe. Japan's drinking age is 20, and things stay chill and safe even late at night.
It takes a little planning but you'll be fine. Japan isn't very vegetarian-friendly by default (dashi broth made from fish is everywhere), but Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka have dedicated veg/vegan restaurants and we'll flag good options during the Osaka street food crawl and Izakaya night. Let your trip captain know your preferences on day 1 so meals can be adjusted where possible.
Bring comfortable walking shoes, layers, a compact rain layer, a portable charger and anything you need for full walking days. For a February departure, add a warm coat and shoes suited to winter conditions. Check the Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka forecasts for your exact dates before you pack.
Use the current JPY fee displayed on your exact edition page; prices differ by departure. International flights, visa costs, personal meals and drinks, shopping, data and any paid add-ons are separate unless your edition's included list explicitly says otherwise. Your extra budget depends on your choices and current flight prices, so check the inclusions and exclusions before booking.
Ordinary Indian passport holders need a visa for short-term tourism. The Embassy of Japan in India says applications are submitted through VFS, no prior appointment is required, and applications can be accepted from three months before travel. From 1 July 2026, the published fee for Indian nationals is an INR 500 government fee; a VFS service fee also applies. ExCo recommends starting document preparation 6-8 weeks before departure. That is a planning buffer, not a government processing-time promise. ExCo's visa support begins after your invite is confirmed; final requirements remain subject to the official authority.
Audience guide
Who are Bucketlist trips designed for?
Bucketlist is for curious travellers who want destination-led adventures with a deliberately formed small group, enough structure to make the journey work, and room to experience the place in their own rhythm. Many people apply solo, including first-time solo travellers, but being solo is not a requirement for every edition.
Bucketlist is not gated by profession. Founders, creators and executives may join, but so may people from any other line of work; BHX is ExCo's separate founder-and-creator brain-vacation format.
The live edition decides the fit. Read its stated audience, capacity, price, activity level, route and inclusions before applying; those details are not universal across Bucketlist.

Why community × travel
Travel is the catalyst. Community is what stays.
In 2014, we started creating journeys in the hope that the right people, in the right place, could make something unrepeatable happen. From roadtrips across Iceland to sake crawls through Japan, that belief has only grown stronger.
Every creator, artist, rebel and doer deserves a space to travel with people they vibe with, to places that make them feel infinite. Across BHX, Festival of X and Bucketlist, travel has never been the finish line. It opens conversations, friendships and the kind of magic that is hard to explain once you are home.
